A Portrait Celebration for Senior Dogs | Featuring delicious Pupcakes from Smallcakes to make their session extra sweet!

Family Session, Jacksonville, FL, Jacksonville Beach, Extended Family Session

Since launching my photography business in 2019, I’ve been honored to document hundreds of meaningful moments for families across Jacksonville and beyond — but some of the most powerful sessions I’ve ever captured have been with aging pets.

Before I picked up a camera professionally, I worked as a veterinary technician, often supporting families through the joyful, emotional, and incredibly sacred last stages of a pet’s life. I’ve also worked closely with a trusted local company that offers in-home end-of-life veterinary services, and that experience taught me something I carry into every session: The love we have for our pets is deep, and it deserves to be remembered.

Whether your dog is celebrating a senior birthday, or simply moving a little slower these days — a portrait session can be a beautiful way to honor your time together and create lasting memories that hold their spirit, not just their image.

Why These Sessions Matter

Senior pet and end-of-life sessions aren’t about saying goodbye. They’re about celebrating a life well-loved — with dignity, joy, and deep connection.

These portraits can be quiet and soulful, or joyful and playful, depending on your dog’s energy. They preserve the gray around their muzzle, the gentle look in their eyes, and the way they still perk up for their favorite word or treat.

For many families, these photos become some of the most cherished images in their home — lasting reminders of a presence that never really leaves.

Ideas to Make the Session Extra Special

Because every dog is different, I plan each session with flexibility and thoughtfulness. Here are some ways to tailor the experience for your best furry friend:

🐾 Choose a meaningful location

  • Your home or backyard – Safe and familiar
  • A quiet beach or peaceful park – Great for mobile dogs who love the outdoors
  • Their favorite spot in the house – Maybe a sunny rug or their usual cozy corner

🐾 Include the people (and pets) they love

  • Bring the whole family — spouses, kids, or even other pets. These moments together mean everything.

🐾 Bring their favorite things

  • A beloved toy
  • Their bed or blanket
  • A favorite treat — even better if it’s something extra special like a Pupcake! 🎂🐶

Speaking of which…

Shoutout to Smallcakes Jacksonville for their adorable and delicious Pupcakes — perfect for celebrating birthdays, “gotcha days,” or just making your dog feel like the star of the show. My own dog had a blast with his Smallcakes treats during his session, and it added such a fun, joyful touch!

🐾 Plan for their comfort

  • We’ll schedule the session during their most comfortable time of day and take breaks as needed. I never rush these — the pace is led by your pet.

A Gentle, Patient Approach

I approach these sessions with the same compassion I carried in my years as a vet tech — soft tones, no pressure, and full of love. My style is documentary, meaning I’ll capture real, in-between moments that show exactly who your dog is — and what they mean to you.

This is storytelling, not posing. And these are memories that will last.

Let’s Celebrate Their Life, Their Way

You don’t have to wait until “the end.” These sessions are just as meaningful for 10th birthdays, retirement from service or therapy work, or simply because your dog has been your rock through it all.
