My Response When You Tell Me What Photos You Want During Your Session

Short answer? I say YES. Always.

Long answer? Let me explain why.

I became a photographer because I see photography as art. I see light, emotion, and connection—and I approach every session with a creative eye, chasing beautiful light, real expressions, and moments that make me pause and think, “Yes… that’s the one.”

But here’s the thing: these aren’t my photos. They’re yours. Not for my portfolio—for your walls, your holiday cards, your phone background.

They’re the photos you’ll send to grandparents. The ones you’ll scroll through ten years from now when your kids are taller than you, or when you're remembering a moment that once felt so ordinary.

So when you tell me, “I really want a shot of the kids walking together,” or “Can we recreate a pose from our last session?” or even “Can we get a smiling one for Grandma?”—you’ll never hear hesitation.

I say: Yes. Absolutely. Let’s do it.

Because the truth is: I want you to love your photos. I want you to feel seen in them. And I want you to feel proud to share them with the people you love most.

That’s why, as a Jacksonville family photographer, I always encourage my clients—whether you’re planning a session on the beach, in a park, or your own backyard—to let me know what matters most to you.

If you’ve got a particular pose or idea in mind, I’m here to bring it to life.

If you’re planning a session as a couple, or celebrating a milestone with your kids, or just want updated family portraits—I want the images to feel like you.

That’s why I ask things like:

➡️ “Are you goofy? Laid-back? High-energy?”

Because if you’re the kind of family that’s always laughing together, I want your gallery full of those genuine, unposed, joy-filled moments. That’s the kind of storytelling I love.

A Note About Client Requests…

I’ve had more than one person tell me: “Our last photographer dismissed our ideas or said they wouldn’t look good.”

Honestly? That makes me cringe. Because I never want you to feel like your ideas don’t matter.

Even if the light isn’t perfect.

Even if it’s not something I’d typically shoot.

Even if it’s a Pinterest idea you’ve had saved for years—

I will do my best to make it happen. And I’ll use every tool, trick, and bit of experience I have to make it the best version of that photo possible.

Because again—these are your photos.

And if you're coming into your session with specific ideas—like knowing you have a particular wall or space in your home where you want your portraits displayed—tell me!

If you know you’re planning to create a collage, or you want landscape or vertical orientations for framing, I want to make sure I capture your photos in a way that fits that vision. I’ll be intentional with composition and direction to coordinate those shots.
