By a Jacksonville & St. Augustine Family + Maternity Photographer
Family photos should be fun, not stressful. Whether you're booking a full family session, a maternity shoot, or capturing a special milestone, a little preparation can go a long way toward a relaxed and enjoyable experience. As a family and maternity photographer serving Jacksonville and St. Augustine, here are my favorite tips to help your next session go off without a hitch:

1. Dress for Comfort (and the Weather!)
Here in sunny Florida, lightweight, breathable outfits are your best friend. Comfortable clothes make it easier for kids to move and play—and for parents to enjoy the moment. Bonus tip: choose colors that coordinate but aren’t too matchy-matchy for a timeless look.
2. Pack Mess-Free Snacks
Kids get hungry fast. A small bag of dry, mess-free snacks (think pretzels, crackers, or fruit snacks) can be a lifesaver. It keeps everyone happy without slowing us down or needing a cleanup before the next shot.

3. Opt for a Longer Session if You Have Little Ones
Sometimes it takes a while for kids (and even adults!) to warm up to the camera. A longer session gives us flexibility—time for breaks, play, and those real-life moments that make your photos so meaningful. As a Jacksonville family photographer, I love capturing the in-between moments when the pressure is off and the smiles are real.
4. Stay Hydrated
Especially during the summer months, bring plenty of water. Staying cool and hydrated helps everyone stay in a good mood—and it keeps the energy up for all those sweet, natural interactions.

5. Focus on Real Moments
The perfect photo with everyone looking at the camera is lovely, but the magic often happens in the unposed moments. As a Jacksonville maternity and family photographer, I believe the most powerful photos are the ones that reflect your real life — hugs, giggles, snuggles, and all.
6. Trust Your Photographer
Whether it’s bright sun or a cloudy sky, I know how to work with natural light to create beautiful images. And if there’s a specific photo you want — like your child with their favorite stuffy, or a candid sibling moment — just let me know! I come prepared with a shot list, but I want to make sure you get the family gallery of your dreams.

7. Planning Wall Art? Let’s Talk!
If you’re dreaming of canvases for your walls or a framed gallery, let me know ahead of time. I’ll be sure to capture images in the right orientation (horizontal vs. vertical) so they’ll fit your space perfectly.
8. Need Help with Outfits? Just Ask!
I’m always happy to give advice! Some colors or patterns photograph differently depending on the time of day and location, and as a photographer, I can help you choose what will look best for your session style and backdrop.

9. Relax and Enjoy the Experience
The most important thing? Have fun! Let your kids be kids, laugh a little louder, and soak it all in. My job is to capture your story with love and intention — your job is to be present. Your family is already perfect.
10. Remember Why You're Doing This
At the end of the day, this session is about your people and your story. It’s not about perfect poses or Instagram-worthy moments — it’s about freezing time, even just for a second. The chaos, the connection, the giggles, the in-between glances — these are the things you’ll want to remember years from now. So let go of the pressure, embrace the imperfections, and trust that your love and your life are more than enough to create something beautiful.
Whether you're celebrating a new baby, updating your family photos, or just want to document this season of life, I’d love to be your go-to Jacksonville or St. Augustine family photographer. Let’s make it a stress-free, joy-filled experience from start to finish.
